At Drift we feel supremely passionate that it is our responsibility to help protect the land as well as the sea. Our ocean playground is a delicate ecosystem, home to millions of species, which we are all interconnected with through the cycles of life, water, food and breath. As surfers we have the privilege to enjoy this playground but lets not forget that we are guests in this unique habitat.

We are conscious of the fact that climate change and marine litter are massive global issues and we want to contribute to the movement of making heathy and informed choices with regards to the environment. What we do on our small Island can have a tremendous impact whether its leading with ideas, conversations, ethics, events or collaborations. Small steps and smart solutions lead to valuable change, and it is up to all of us to make a difference.

The 3 pillars of Permaculture are earth care, people care and fair share, and our Eco Manifesto really expands on the key theme of earth care, helping to outline our ecological ethos, vision and longterm goals. We in fact explore all three pillars of permaculture through our eco guidelines and procedures.

We are super aware of the advantages of eating clean, green, healthy and organic, as well as using natural products - so looking after the earth, benefits us directly. With Drift we are gifted with consumer power as well as the chance to shout about other eco friendly products, organisations and resources to our guests. We hope you embrace this movement with us and consider these 10 points we have drawn up as our eco manifesto.

  1. PROUD TO BE SINGLE USE PLASTIC FREE. WE WON’T BE INDULGING IN USING SINGLE USE PLASTIC AND WE ASK THAT IF GUESTS DO BRING “SUP” WITH THEM THAT THEY TAKE IT HOME TOO!

  2. DRIFT LIGHTLY ECO PACK; AN ECO BAG FEATURING A REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE AND BAMBOO TOOTHBRUSH. NATURAL PRODUCTS ARE AVAILABLE TO OUR RETREAT GUESTS - YOU DON’T NEED TO BRING TOILETRIES WITH YOU, AND EVERYTHING AVAILABLE IS NATURAL & ORGANIC.

  4. NATURE WALKS. LOCAL EXPERT MIKE STENTIFORD WILL BE JOINING US ON NATURE WALKS AROUND THE JERSEY NATIONAL PARK TO INTRODUCE US AND CONNECT US TO THE LOCAL FLORA AND FAUNA.

  5. COMPOSTING. WE DON’T TEND TO HAVE A LOT OF FOOD WASTE, BUT THE LEFTOVERS FROM OUR JUICES AND HEALTHY MEALS WILL GO TO LOCAL FARM INITIATIVES.

  6. BEACH CLEANS. WE HAVE BEEN SUPPORTERS OF SAS, TAKE 3 FOR THE SEA & 2 MINUTE BEACH CLEAN FOR YEARS AND WILL HOLD MINI BEACH CLEANS DURING DRIFT.

  7. PLANTING TREES. WE’RE JOINING FORCES WITH JERSEY BASED CHARITY “TREES FOR LIFE” TO OFFSET OUR CARBON EMISSIONS AS WELL AS OFFERING GUESTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO OFFSET THEIR TRAVEL.

  8. COASTAL FORAGING. WE GO WILD ADVENTURING WITH KAZ AROUND THE ROCK POOLS OF ST OPENS BAY, THINK GOURMET SELF SUSTAINABILITY.

  9. COLLABORATIONS. WE SUPPORT LOCAL BUT ALSO THINK GLOBAL - CHARITIES FURTHER AFIELD THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THE LOVE ABOUT ARE: BUKIT LAWANG & AH2O (WATER FILTERS IN NICARAGUA)

  10. ECOACTIVE BUSINESS. JERSEY STATES HAVE AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME ALL BUSINESSES CAN JOIN AND WE AIM TO WORK OUR WAY THROUGH THE TIERS, STARTING WITH THE BASICS - REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, AND MOVING ONTO BEING A LEADER AND A TRAINER IN ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESS PRACTICES.
